Project goals

Setting up your home network can be a bit of a hassle. With the Connect App and Connect Web it is not complicated to manage your network by yourself. From installing to modem to changing your password. From pausing connected devices to improving your WiFi range. This project focusses on Connect Web.

Offering expert users what they desire, while not forgetting the laymen

Based on our aquired knowledge via internal research we've started mapping the differences between laymen and expert. What does that mean? What is needed for which feature? Ultimately this new product will provide a seamless experience for our more expert users, by offering features these users desire in a more accessible environment.

Filling the gaps

In the new information architecture I restructured the entire navigation. The most used settings were displayed, and the more technical settings were grouped underneath 'expert settings' as to not to confuse the less technical-oriented users.

After that I thought out the responsive behaviour and subsequently I created an interaction design with the existing design system.

Because some of the features on the web environment were more technical, we decided to user test these via a preference test and a usability test. Because of their feedback we had our assumptions questioned and were more confident moving forward, after implementnig their feedback.

The next step was translating the interaction design to the design system. Components that were already present were optimised for responsiveness. The missing components were added for every brand.

We used a design system with the power of design tokens. Design is a language, and when everyone is speaking the same language, that's when things get done. Ultimately we can increase the speed at which products are updated and released.

Stakeholders & brand alignment

During this project I aligned continuously with the different stakeholders (e.g. consumer brands and PO's) to make sure we were handling according brand guidelines. My design colleague and I visited the Virgin Media office in London to demo the results to all the stakeholders.
